SBVC (0-1) opened up the 2014 season at home and in a game of back-and-forth came up one run short against the Compton Tartars (1-0), 6-5.

Compton used five different pitchers to secure the win after their starter went five and a third giving up all five runs, all of which were earned. SBVC sophomore right handed starting pitcher Tyler Rich (Colton H.S.) tossed five complete innings, surrendering five hits and three runs, with only one earned, walking one and striking out five in the no decision. Sophomore right handed pitcher Josh Garcia (Moreno Valley Vista del Lago) threw an inning and a third giving up three hits and three runs, all earned, walking one in his first loss of the year.

SBVC sophomore right handed pitcher Anthony Carrizosa (Corona H.S.) put in an inning and two thirds of work surrendering two hits and striking out one and sophomore left handed pitcher A.J. David (Anaheim Katella) wrapped up the top of the ninth giving up a hit and striking out one.

SBVC took the early lead, grabbing two runs in the bottom of the second, but gave those runs right back in the top of the fourth, when the Tartars added two of their own to tie the game. Compton would add one more run in the top of the fifth, then SBVC would take a two run lead in the bottom of the sixth, with a three run effort to go up, 5-3. The Tartars would wrap up the scoring in the top of the seventh with a three spot and take the game, 6-5.

Sophomore center fielder and leadoff batter Jason Wilcoxson (Claremont H.S.) went 2 for 4 with three runs batted in and David went 2 for 5 on the afternoon. Freshman first baseman Aaron Cisneros (San Bernardino H.S.) went 1 for 3 with a run scored and sophomore short stop Mason Adams (Corona Centennial) went 1 for 3 with an RBI in the loss.
