SBVC Men’s Basketball sophomore guard Kirby Gardner (Rialto Eisenhower) has signed with Oklahoma State University.
Gardner was awarded the Foothill Conference MVP award. He had a career high 35 points against Conference rival Victor Valley on January 14 at SBVC
and was also an Honorable Mention for State Student Athlete of the Month for the month of January. Gardner was also one of several SBVC Men’s Basketball student athletes who received Certificates of Recognition from California State Assemblyman, Mike Morrell. SBVC grabbed their third Men’s Basketball Foothill Conference title in four years, also capturing Conference MVP and Conference Coach of the Year honors.
Gardner averaged 17.2 points per game and had an 86% free throw percentage his sophomore year. He also was very generous with the basketball, handing out 136 assists, leading the team in assists, and in three pointers made, with 49.
SBVC Men’s Basketball ended the 2011-2012 season having won 25 games, on their way to making their fourth straight playoff appearance. Continuing to cement its reputation as a dominant program in the region, the team was within one victory of heading back to the State Finals for the first time since 2009-2010 season.
The Oklahoma State Cowboys play in the Gallagher-Iba Arena and the team is coached by four year veteran, Travis Ford. In the 2011-2012 season the Cowboys finished seventh in the Big-12 going 15-18 and 7-11 in conference play, losing to Missouri in the second round of the Big-12 Conference tournament. OSU competes in Big-12 in NCAA Division I, getting to the Final Four in 2004.
