SBVC (3-6; 2-2) punished the Victorville Victor Valley Rams (3-6; 2-2) for 210 yards on the ground and 195 yards in the air, as freshman wide receiver Stacy Howard (Fontana Azariel Blanchard Miller) set a school record with 5 touchdown catches and freshman quarterback Daniel Farley (Windsor, CT Loomis Chaffee) set a school record with 6 touchdown passes, in a lopsided victory, 59-41.
SBVC scored the highest point total over Victor Valley since 1991, when SBVC defeated the Rams 62-6. In a bizarre occurrence, there were no punts in this game and the Rams had 11 penalties for 55 yards and SBVC had only one penalty for 5 yards.
Howard grabbed 8 passes for 97 yards with a long of 20 and Farley went 18 for 30 with 195 yards passing and a long of 28 yards in the win. SBVC freshman defensive back Brian Widgins (San Jacinto H.S.) snagged 2 interceptions, one that was returned 31 yards for a touchdown, he broke up a pass, forced a fumble, and collected 7 total tackles, 5 of which were solo.
SBVC sophomore kicker Cody Lyter (Lake Arrowhead Rim of the World) connected on all 8 of his extra point attempts, including a 29 yard field goal. In addition, he had 10 kickoffs for 465 yards, averaging 46.5 yards per kick.
Sophomore running back Kingdwayne Soloman (Los Angeles Washington Prep) had an impressive game carrying the ball, with 28 rushes for 164 yards, with a long of 14, averaging 5.8 yards per carry. In addition, Soloman had 4 kickoff returns, totaling 78 yards, his longest being 37 yards.
Victor Valley took their opening drive 48 yards in 9 plays ending on a 33 yards field goal to give them a 3-0 lead four minutes into the game. SBVC would answer back on their ensuing drive, handed a short field thanks to the strong return by Soloman. SBVC went 36 yards in 3 plays and scored on a pass from Farley to Howard for a 19 yard score. And after a Lyter kick, SBVC would take a 7-3 lead early in the 1st quarter.
The Rams took their next possession and marched 60 yards in 6 plays helped in large part by a 45 yard fake punt run, which put Victor Valley on the one yard line. Victor Valley then punched it in from one yard out to take the lead, 10-7. SBVC responded by chewing up nearly six minutes of game clock, going 80 yards in 14 plays, wrapping up the drive on a 5 yards pass from Farley to Howard, to give SBVC a 14-10 lead at the end of the 1st quarter.
Victor Valley then went 50 yards in 4 plays, most of that yardage was grabbed on a 42 yard play, and the drive ended on a 1 yard run, giving the Rams their last lead of the game, 17-14, early in the 2nd quarter. SBVC took another lengthy drive and made points out of it, going 65 yards in 10 plays ending on another Farley to Howard touchdown pass, this time for four yards, with 9:06 left in the first half.
With each of these teams scoring on their following possessions, something had to give, and fortunately that benefited SBVC in a huge way.
Victor Valley fumbled on their next possession, which was recovered by Conference Defensive Player of the Week, Widgins, and two plays later, SBVC was in the end zone again. This time on a 28 yard touchdown pass from Farley to sophomore tight end David Amaro (Bloomington H.S.) to give SBVC a 28-17 lead. Once again the SBVC defense came up huge on the next drive for the Rams, as Widgins intercepted a pass which was turned into a 29 yard field goal by Lyter, to give SBVC a 31-17 lead. The Rams would take their next possession and score on a 31 yard field goal to get within eleven, 31-20, just before the end of the first half.
SBVC took their first drive of the second half and went 51 yards in 10 plays, wrapping up on another Farley to Howard play, this time for 16 yards, giving SBVC a 38-20 lead, and now the rout was on. The Rams first play from scrimmage was picked off by Widgins and ran back 31 yards for a “Pick 6,” giving SBVC a 45-20 lead. The home crowd was enraptured by the outcome of the game thus far.
For the next two series, each team traded touchdowns, as the Rams went 62 yards in 6 plays and got to within 18 points, only to have SBVC turn around and go 32 yards in 6 plays to give SBVC a 52-27 lead going into the end of the third quarter.
SBVC would score their final points of the night, early in the fourth quarter, on a 57 yard, 11 play drive that ended on another Farley to Howard connection, this time for 9 yards, giving SBVC a 32 point lead at 59-27. The Rams would score a couple of meaningless touchdowns to end the game, but the end score does not really indicate how lopsided this game truly was.
