SBVC Women’s Track & Field traveled to San Diego Mesa for the Foothill/Pacific Coast Conference Prelims and Finals, finishing sixth of seven teams behind eventual champion, Mesa, but finished first in the Long Jump and freshman Shanice Stewart (Rialto Wilmer Amina Carter) dominated with 39 total points by herself.

The Foothill/Pacific Coast Conference Relays were won by defending Conference champions San Diego Mesa with a total of 184.16 points, 46.66 points ahead of their nearest competitor, Palomar and 127.16 points ahead of SBVC.

Stewart was a one woman wrecking crew, finishing in the top five in five of six events. She finished first in the long jump with a distance of 5.97 meters, second in the high jump with a leap of 1.62 meters, second in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 14.71, fourth in the 200 meter dash with a time of 26.00, fourth in the with a distance of 10.45 meters, and sixth in the javelin throw with a distance of 29.37 meters. Stewart’s 39 points represented 68% of the SBVC team points scored.

Freshman Melina Hernandez (Indio H.S.) finished fifth in the 1500 meters (0.932 miles) with a time of 5:11.36, a full three seconds ahead of her nearest opponent, scoring four points.
