DEFENSIVE TACTICS
The Weaponless Defense block of instruction is conducted on the former Norton Air Force Base grounds at the San Manuel Department of Public Safety Training Center. The primary location utilized for this training is conducted in the classroom that is equipped with mats.
The alternate location utilized by the Academy is the North Hall 213 classroom, located on the San Bernardino Valley College campus. The purchase of appropriate mats have allowed for an alternate facility/location to conduct the training.
Both the former Norton AFB and the SBVC campus provides copious grounds for outdoor training needs (Baton strikes). The campus also provides additional defensive tactics type training by utilizing the field containing the fixed chain linked fence and solid wall for the P.O.S.T. Physical Agility testing.
The instruction staff consists of no less than two (2) trained Defensive Tactics instructors from the SBVC Instructional Staff. Additional Instructors / Safety Officers are utilized when required to meet the student safety guidelines. The acceptable instructor/student ratio has been set in accordance with the type of training conducted. This ratio may be as high as 1 to 10 for Static Training and as low as 1 to 1 for Tactical Maneuvers.
