Technology Training  technical-training

  • PowerPoint:  Beginning and Intermediate classes will give you what you need to know to create presentations, then to make them sparkle.
  • Outlook: Learn to use this tool to maintain your calendar, to send and receive e-mail, to schedule appointments, etc. 
  • FrontPage:  Learn to create your own website using Microsoft FrontPage.
  • Etudes: Put class materials or a whole class online using the our current software.
  • Blackboard: Utilize our course management system for grade submission to make resources available to students and to teach on line and hybrid courses.
  • Word:  Beginning and Intermediate Word classes can help you to use this MS Office tool to its full potential.
  • Scanning Images: Use campus scanners to add pictures or other graphic materials into your documents.
  • Digital Photography: Learn to use the digital cameras currently available to capture images from around campus in your class or on your travels.
  • Excel: A Microsoft spreadsheet which is useful in keeping track of student grades, budgets, etc.
  • Access: Microsoft's database program.
  • Campus Central: A portal to San Bernardino Valley College - serving faculty, staff and students.
  • Flash: Vector graphics editing and animations.

Teaching Improvement

  • New Faculty Orientation: A 30-hour program for newly-hired, full-time faculty with emphases on teaching/learning processes, college and district policies, classroom assessment, available resources, available technologies.
  • Learning Styles: A workshop focusing on varying theories of learning styles, including Kiersey, Kolb, Gardner and Barsch.
  • Classroom Assessment Techniques: A workshop providing necessary information to implement classroom assessment into courses as a means to improve teaching.
  • Teacher Formation: Based on the work of Parker Palmer, this program provides teachers with an opportunity to explore the spirituality of teaching.
  • Collaborative/Cooperative Learning: A workshop which provides participants with several models of collaborative/cooperative learning.
  • Writing Across the Curriculum
  • Dealing with Under-Prepared StudentsInstructional Skills Workshop/Technology Mediated Teaching: An intensive four-day program which focuses on teaching skills improvement.
  • Emotional Intelligence:  Based on the theory of Daniel Goleman--emotional intelligence may have more to do with future successes than cognitive intelligence.
  • Great Teachers' Retreat: Based on the work of David Gottshal - an opportunity for new and more senior faculty to come together to celebrate teaching successes, to begin to deal with teaching challenges, and to continue the search for the "great teacher" in us all.
  • Spring Teaching Symposium: An initiative of the SBVC Academic Senate to spend a day celebrating teaching and learning at SBVC.

Job Related Improvement

  • New Employee Orientation: Begins with a "First Week" session on the critical needs of an employee (phone, email, parking, etc.).  Continues with weekly sessions including completion of required campus forms, policies and procedures, campus tour, etc.
