In the tournament championship final, SBVC faced the preseason number one in the Foothill Conference, Mt. San Jacinto, that ranking meant nothing, as SBVC crushed Mt. San Jacinto was ranked third, and SBVC was ranked fourth.

March 12, 2009

San Bernardino Valley College Men’s Basketball faced a tough City College of San Francisco Rams team in the first round of the state finals. As the final buzzer echoed in the cavernous Selland Arena in Fresno, after three overtime periods, the exhausted teams congratulated each other as SBVC heads home, 87-92.

Men's Basketball: Stuns Chaffey in Win
January 14, 2008

SBVC took on their cross county rival Chaffey and walked away with victories. The men’s basketball team (4-0 17-6) sent the home crowd into frenzy with a overtime victory for the ages. The Wolverines almost let the game slip away multiple times, but ended up with an overtime win, 81-78.

The men’s basketball game came down to a foul called on the Panthers with 1.4 seconds remaining in the first overtime period. The officials counted a basket by freshman guard Nathan Roth (Riverside Ramona) that they had initially waived off. Causing a mixture of euphoria and angst in the gymnasium by fans of both teams. The foul call was a controversial one that enraged the Panthers coaching staff and left SBVC coaches trying to figure out what happened. The end result was a loose ball foul on Roth which gave the Panthers a chance to tie the game at the free throw line. With SBVC leading 80-78, sophomore wing Winston Robinson (Bartram, Pennsylvania John Bartram H.S.) stood at the free throw line and promptly missed both free throws. As SBVC inbounded the ball, freshman forward Curtis Wilkinson (Budea, Michigan Franklin County H.S.) was fouled and sent to the free throw line with a chance to put the game away. Missing the first free throw Wilkinson converted on the second, giving SBVC a three point lead. With 0.8 left on the clock the Panthers inbounded the ball hurling the ball to an open sophomore guard Lamar Williams (Fontana H.S.) who grazed the rim as time expired.

Roth led the Wolverines with 22 points and sophomore guard Warren Fuselier (Baton Rouge, Louisiana North Side H.S.) added 19 to lift the Wolverines (4-0, 17-6) past the Panthers to keep their undefeated conference record intact.
