Coach Named Coach of the Year
November 12, 2009
In his fourth
season as SBVC Men’s Soccer head coach
Joshua Brown was named the Foothill
Conference Coach of the Year today; this
is the first such honor for Coach Brown.
Along with this honor Coach Brown’s team
had nine players named to the
All-Conference team.
Coach Brown played his collegiate soccer
at Cal State San Bernardino under Coach’s Carlos Juarez, Mike Avery,
and Christian Johnson, where he started all four years and was named
CCAA First Team all-conference. He played professional soccer for
the San Diego Flash, and the Indiana Invaders. As his professional
career wound down, Brown pursued a career in education. Brown
resides in Moreno Valley with his wife Natalie and daughter
Madeline.
SBVC
Men’s Soccer started in the fall of 1990 and was put on hiatus in
the 1992 and 1993 seasons, returning in 1994. In 1994, SBVC Men’s
Soccer had the most successful season in team history with a 12-5-3
overall record and a 9-3-2 South Coast Conference record. In 2002,
the program had its second best season in team history with an
11-7-3 overall record and a 3-3-2 Foothill Conference record. The
2009 SBVC Men’s Soccer team secured a spot with the third best
record in team history, with an overall record of 10-7-4 and a 2-4-2
Foothill Conference record.
Named to
the first team All-Foothill Conference was freshman goal keeper
Daniel Montalvo (Rialto Eisenhower), freshman defenseman Luis
Negrete (Fontana H.S.), and sophomore defenseman and team captain
Kyle Yip (Fontana Kaiser).
Named to
the second team All-Foothill Conference was freshman midfielder Eric
Madrid (Fontana H.S.), freshman defenseman Eric Gonzalez (Ontario
H.S.) and freshman forward Luis Nalasco (Bloomington H.S.).
Named
All-Foothill Conference Honorable Mention was freshman forward Saul
Diaz (Fontana H.S.), sophomore midfielder and team captain Emmanuel
Rodriguez (Rialto Zupanic), and freshman midfielder Antonio Salazar
(Fontana H.S.).
Men's Soccer: Tough tie
threatens to tackle title target

Even though SBVC had 14 shots on goal,
no player could break through, as SBVC
tied College of the Desert, 0-0 in San
Bernardino. SBVC Men’s Soccer, two wins
shy of tying their best record ever
(since 1991), was led by freshman
defender
Antonio
Salazar (Fontana H.S.) with 3 shots
taken and freshman goal keeper Daniel
Montalvo (Rialto Eisenhower) preserved
the clean sheet with 4 saves.
SBVC’s next game is Friday, November 6
at Victorville Victor Valley.
Men's Soccer: Another Conference
win moves SBVC closer to goal

Freshman Joel Soberu (Rialto
Eisenhower), freshman Michael Escobar (Rialto Carter), and
freshman Erick Madrid (Fontana) each had a goal and freshman
midfielder Antonio Salazar (Fontana), Madrid, and freshman
forward Saul Diaz (Fontana) each had an assist, as SBVC thumped
the Victor Valley Rams, 3-1. SBVC has only lost once in the last
10 games and the next game for SBVC is this Friday at Whittier
Rio Hondo.

Incredible Run Continues
October 6, 2009
Freshman Joel Soberu (Rialto Eisenhower)
had two goals and an assist as SBVC
walloped the Imperial Valley Arabs, 7-0.
Freshman Daniel Montalvo (Rialto
Eisenhower) and sophomore David
Hernandez (Bloomington) shared a clean
sheet, by blanking the Arabs.
SBVC
has only lost once in the last 9 games.
Men's Soccer: Racking up 4
straight wins
September 22, 2009
After
back-to-back shutouts at the hands of El
Camino and Canyons, SBVC has torn out of
control racking up 4 straight victories.
With one week until the Foothill
Conference home opener against Chaffey,
there seems to be nothing slowing this
team down. With captains like, sophomore
defender Kyle Yip (Fontana Kaiser),
freshman Michael Solares (Montebello H.S.),
and sophomore midfielder Emmanuel
Rodriguez (Rialto, CA) the team seems to
be headed in the right direction under
third year coach Josh Brown.
Freshman
forward Saul Diaz (Fontana H.S.) is
leading the Foothill Conference in goals
scored with 10 and freshman goal keeper
Daniel Montalvo (Rialto Eisenhower) has
over 500 minutes in net logged thus far.
This winning
streak all started with a trip to
Glendale, where freshman Mario Bonilla
(San Bernardino San Gorgonio) and Diaz
each scored. Freshman midfielder Erick
Madrid (Fontana) and freshman forward
Luis Nalasco (Bloomington) each had one
assist,
Montalvo was in goal for 90 minutes with
6 saves,
as SBVC
knocked off Glendale, 2-1.
Glendale was
followed by a trip up the coast to Santa
Barbara, where Diaz scored two goals,
and Solares and Bonilla each had an
assist,
Montalvo was in goal for 90 minutes with
6 saves, as SBVC knocked off Santa
Barbara, 2-1.
SBVC returned
home to open up a five game home stand
by playing L.A. Mission, SBVC dominated
from the opening whistle as L.A. Mission
had no answer for 3 first half goals.
Madrid, Nalasco, and Diaz had goals,
while freshman midfielder Antonio
Salazar (Fontana H.S.) and Madrid each
had assists,
Montalvo was in goal for 90 minutes with
6 saves, as SBVC knocked off L.A.
Mission, 3-1.
L.A. Mission
was followed by a home game against
Cuyamaca, where Nalasco, Madrid,
freshman Josh Escobar (Rialto), and
freshman Rafael Reyes (San Bernardino
Arroyo Valley) had one goal each, while
Madrid, Diaz, and Salazar each had an
assist,
Montalvo and Hernandez each split time
in net for 90 minutes, as SBVC knocked
off Cuyamaca, 4-0.
SBVC's next
three games are at home versus Fullerton
on Thursday, MiraCosta on Friday, and
the Foothill Conference opener against
Chaffey next Tuesday. All games are at 4
p.m.

SBVC’s Pope named honorable mention to state
Student Athlete of the Month

sophomore forward Josh Pope
(Colton)
was named by the
California Community College Athletic
Association (CCCAA) and the California
Community College Sports Information
Association (CCCSIA) as an honorable
mention for the Student Athlete of the
Month for the month of November. Pope
was named the SBVC Student Athlete of the Month for the month of November.

reasons why Pope deserved such
an honor.
“For
the past two seasons coaches
have counted on Pope as the
Men’s Soccer captain and team
leader on and off the field.
Pope's GPA has not dropped below
a 3.8 since he has been at San
Bernardino Valley College. Pope
is a true student athletic who
takes pride in his studies. This
season Pope scored 3 goals and
tallied 4 assists, and was named
Foothill Conference Honorable
Mention. Coaches look forward to
seeing Pope moving on to a 4
year and being successful there
as well. Pope is committed to
what he wants to do and his head

(Riverside King) and freshman forward Luis Gomez (Mexico City, Mexico).
Those named second team All-Foothill Conference were, freshman forward
Kyle Yip (Fontana Kaiser) and freshman forward Jeremy Carroll (Redlands
East Valley). Those named honorable mention All-Foothill Conference
were, sophomore forward Josh Pope (Colton), freshman midfielder Ryan Panzino
(Redlands East Valley), and freshman midfielder Corey Pickens (Riverside
J.W. North).
