SBVC puts the hurt on Mt. San Jacinto in sweep

SBVC honored
its sophomore's on the night of the last
home game for the 2009 season,
celebrating Jezere Wahlgren, Serina
Alex, Tricianne Patterson, and Christy
Brosious. Then SBVC went onto the court
and summarily swept the Mt. San Jacinto
Eagles, 3-0. SBVC
freshman
outside hitter Breeana Lotenero (Rim of
the World) led the team with 13 digs and
5 kills, sophomore setter Christy Brosius
(Glendale, AZ Ironwood) had 26 set
assists, and sophomore outside hitter Jezere Wahlgren (Rim of the
World) led the team with 7 kills and
had 7 digs.

is swept by Rams

SBVC was swept
in Foothill Conference play by the
Victorville Victor Valley Rams, 0-3.
SBVC freshman libero Shelby Newman
(Redlands East Valley) had 12 digs,
freshman outside hitter Breeana Lotenero
(Rim of the World) led the team with 13
digs and 5 kills, and sophomore outside
hitter Jezere Wahlgren (Rim of the
World) led the team with 10 kills and
had 11 digs. SBVC’s next game will be at
Palm Desert College of the Desert on
Wednesday.

SBVC trounces Chaffey in sweep

2009
SBVC avenged
an earlier season loss to regional and
Foothill Conference rival, the Chaffey
Panthers, by sweeping the Panthers, 3-0.
SBVC now moves into sole possession of
fourth place in Conference. SBVC
freshman libero Shelby Newman (Redlands
East Valley) led the team with 17 digs,
freshman outside hitter Breeana Lotenero
(Rim of the World) had 10 digs and 13
kills, and sophomore outside hitter
Jezere Wahlgren (Rim of the World) had
10 kills. SBVC’s next game will be at
home on Monday against Victor Valley.
Volleyball:
Tough fought loss to Antelope Valley
October 21,
2009
SBVC took the
Foothill Conference second place,
Antelope Valley Marauders, to the brink,
only to lose in dramatic fashion, 3
games to 2. Marauders had streaks of 8
straight points in game 2, 6 straight
points in game 3, and 8 straight points
in game 4. Marauders libero Kahli Remy
(Quartz Hill) was handed a red card by
the officials, giving SBVC a much valued
point late in game two. SBVC freshman
outside hitter Breeana Lotenero (Rim of
the World) had 10 digs and 13 kills,
sophomore setter Christy Brosius
(Glendale, AZ Ironwood) had 39 set
assists, and freshman libero Shelby
Newman (Redlands East Valley) and
freshman outside hitter Jennae Daniels
(Riverside North) had 9 digs a piece.

Opens Conference Play with a Win

Freshman outside hitter Breeana Lotenero
(Rim) led the team with 15 kills,
followed closely by sophomore middle
blocker Serina Alex (Moreno Valley
Canyon Springs), and sophomore setter
Christy Brosius (Glendale, AZ Ironwood)
had 32 assists as SBVC won its Foothill
Conference opener 3 to 1 over the
visiting Whittier Rio Hondo Roadrunners.

their 2009 Summer Volleyball Camp.

All-Foothill Conference Selections
December

2008
Freshman standout,
Christy Brosius (Glendale,
AZ Ironwood H.S.), was named first team all-Foothill Conference. She
finished 4th in conference with a 6.34 assist average and
16th overall in services aces average with
0.28. SBVC finished in
sixth place in conference play. SBVC
played the entire season with only six regular starters, often rotating
in freshman outside hitter Brittany Tuioti
(Rialto H.S.) due to
injuries.
Named to the second
team all conference was sophomore Chypre Shaw (San Bernardino Pacific)
and those who received
an honorable mention were freshman Jezere Wahlgren
(Lake Arrowhead Rim of the
World) and freshman Serina Alex (Moreno Valley Canyon Springs).
Shaw finished 11th overall in diggs average
with 2.68. Wahlgren finished 5th overall in services aces average with
0.44 and 18th in diggs average with 2.32. Alex finished 12th overall in
hitting percentage with 0.189 and 20th in blocks average with 0.28.

San Bernardino Valley
College Volleyball freshman setter Christy Brosious (Glendale, Arizona
Ironwood) was named by the California Community College Athletic
Association (CCCAA) and the California Community College Sports
Information Association (CCCSIA) as an honorable mention for the Student
Athlete of the Month for the month of October.
On November 3, Brosious was
named the San Bernardino Valley College Student Athlete of the Month for
the month of October.
Volleyball Head coach Tricia
Rossman gave her reasons why Brosious deserved such an honor.
“Christy is a great
leader on our team who is dedicated to the team. She is always early to
practice making sure the net is up and the team is ready to go. She
always gives a 100% to the team and herself on being better.
She is always playing
her hardest with a positive attitude. She has shown leadership by
speaking the things I am thinking.
Christy has
taken on a new role as a new role as a setter this year and has done a
great job with it. She runs an offense with confidence and leadership.
All the players, coaches, refs, and fans look up to Christy. She showed
up to practice with a 101 degree fever and tried to refuse to go home
because of her commitment to the team. She is well deserving of this
honor. She has 318 assists.”
