Women's & Men's Basketball: SBVC opens up season by knocking teams out
November 8, 2009

The Men's team traveled to San Francisco for the City College of San Francisco Tournament and the Women's team traveled to Walnut for the Mt. San Antonio College Tip Off Tournament, each team reaching the championship finals respectively.

Women's basketball opened up the Mt. SAC Tip Off Tournament with a game against a testy Palomar team that was out for revenge after SBVC upset Palomar, in the opening round of the 08-09 State Playoffs. SBVC won, 64-52. In the second round, SBVC faced regional rival, Riverside, where SBVC triumphed, 81-70. In the tournament championship final, SBVC faced host team, Mt. San Antonio, and fell by 4 points, 44-48.

Men's basketball opened up the City College of San Francisco Tournament with a game against the host team, City College of San Francisco. SBVC faced CCSF in the opening round of the State finals 8 months prior, losing in a triple overtime game for the ages. With reciprocity on their minds, SBVC returned the favor by thumping CCSF, 80-67. In the second game, SBVC faced an always tough Fresno team, and won 90-78. In the tournament championship final, SBVC faced the preseason number one in the Foothill Conference, Mt. San Jacinto, that ranking meant nothing, as SBVC crushed Mt. San Jacinto, 89-69, to win the City College of San Francisco Tournament. In the preseason coaches poll, CCSF was ranked fifth in the state, Fresno was ranked first, Mt. San Jacinto was ranked third, and SBVC was ranked fourth.


Women's Basketball: Pullum signs letter of intent

Sophomore guard Dwayanna Pullum (Riverside John Wesley North) has signed a letter of intent with the Dakota State University Trojans. Pullum will follow teammate Angela Green to DSU.

Pullum played her high school ball for the Huskies of Riverside J.W. North. While playing basketball for SBVC, Pullum was named 1st team All-Foothill League for the 2008-2009 season. Pullum, while at SBVC, was a part of back to back Foothill Conference title teams, and was on the SBVC 2007-2008 Women's Basketball team that tied the school record for most consecutive wins and most wins a season. Pullum is Psychology major and has a career goal of “making mad money” and “be the best that I can be in life.” Her hobbies include, “Playing ball, kicking it with the fam bam and the homies.” 

Dakota State University is located in the town of Madison, South Dakota about 50 miles northwest of Sioux Falls. 

The Dakota State University Trojans play in DSU Memorial Field House and are coached by Joe Reints. In the 2008-2009 season the Trojans went 8-21 overall and 3-11 in conference play. DSU is in the Dakota Athletic Conference of the NAIA.

Women's Basketball: Green signs letter of intent

Sophomore forward Angela Green (Riverside La Sierra) has signed a letter of intent with the Dakota State University Trojans.

Green played her high school ball for the Eagles of La Sierra. While playing basketball for the Eagles, Green was named 1st team All-Ivy League, 2nd team All-Ivy League, Best Defensive Player, and Team MVP. Green while at SBVC was a part of back to back Foothill Conference title teams, and was on the SBVC 2007-2008 Women's Basketball team that tied the school record for most consecutive wins and most wins a season. Green is Sociology major and has a career goal of helping people, and make money. Her hobbies include basketball, singing, reading, and writing. 

Dakota State University is located in the town of Madison, South Dakota about 50 miles northwest of Sioux Falls.

Women's Basketball: Frazier signs letter of intent

Sophomore Guard Ashleigh Frazier (Redlands East Valley) has signed a letter of intent with the Academy of Art University Urban Knights in San Francisco.

Frazier played her high school ball for the Wildcats of Redlands East Valley, where she was named Most Improved. Frazier while at SBVC was a part of back to back Foothill Conference title teams, and was on the SBVC 2007-2008 Women's Basketball team that tied the school record for most consecutive wins and most wins a season. Frazier was named to the 2008-2009 first team all-Foothill Conference, during that year Frazier was also named SBVC Student Athlete of the Month for the month of January and was named honorable mention to the State Student Athlete of the Month for the month of January. Frazier is a photography major and has a career goal of becoming a professional photographer. Her hobbies include skateboarding, watching TV., going on the computer, and texting.

The Academy of Art University Urban Knights play at Kezar Pavilion in Golden Gate Park and are coached by Lindsey Yamasaki. In the 2008-2009 season the Urban Knights went 6-20 and are in the Pacific West Conference of Division II.

SBVC Women’s Basketball: Sheppard signs letter of intent with Oregon State University

San Bernardino Valley College sophomore guard, Eisha Sheppard (Victorville Victor Valley), has signed a letter of intent with a Division I school, the Oregon State University Beavers. 

Sheppard led the SBVC Women’s Basketball in scoring and points per game, on their way to winning their second straight Foothill Conference. Sheppard was named first team all-Foothill Conference, having a season high of 28 points against Chaffey along with a 68% free throw shooting percentage.  

She chose the Beavers because, “I like their program, I fit in well with my future teammates, I like their coach, and the community offers a great deal of support for Oregon State.” Sheppard will start school in late September and is looking to pursue a career in Sports Management, intending to eventually coach basketball. “I have always wanted to play in the PAC-10, it is a tough conference,” said Sheppard. 

Oregon State University is located in western Oregon in the town of Corvallis about 50 miles east of the Pacific Ocean and about 80 miles south of Portland. 

The OSU Beavers play at Amory Tingle "Slats" Gill Coliseum and are coached by LaVonda Wagner. In the 2008-2009 season the Beavers went 20-12, going 9-9 in conference play, and advancing to the third round of the Women’s NIT. The Beavers are in the PAC-10 Conference.


Women's Basketball: Conference Honors

This is Women’s basketball head coach Susan Crebbin’s fourth year as head coach. Crebbin has coached two teams to Foothill Conference titles, including last year’s team, making her the first coach in SBVC Women’s basketball history to record back-to-back conference championship teams. SBVC Women’s Basketball has won a Conference title 4 times since its inception in 1975; 1998, 2001, 2008, 2009.

Women’s basketball sophomore guard Ashleigh Frazier (Redlands East Valley) was named the San Bernardino Valley College Student Athlete of the Month for the month of January. In addition, Frazier was named as an honorable mention to the California Student Athlete of the Month and was named first team all-Foothill Conference. 

Women’s basketball sophomore guard Dwayanna Pullum (Riverside John Wesley North) and sophomore guard Eisha Sheppard (Victorville Victor Valley) were also named first team all-Foothill Conference. Freshman forward Kimberly Kipp (Riverside Martin Luther King, Jr.) was name as an Honorable Mention.


Men's & Women's Basketball Teams Getting Closer to State Finals

San Bernardino Valley College Women’s and Men’s basketball are keeping pace with some stiff competition and are one win away from representing SBVC in Fresno at the state finals next week. 

This week the SBVC Women’s basketball team will travel to Pasadena with tip off set for 7 pm and the SBVC Men’s basketball team is hosting San Diego Miramar here at SBVC with tip off set for 7 pm. 

San Bernardino Valley College is the only school in Southern California to have both Women’s and Men’s basketball teams in the third round of the Southern California Regional’s. 

This was the first year in San Bernardino Valley College’s history that both Women’s and Men’s basketball teams won a Conference title in the same year.  

In accordance with bylaw 6.8.16D1 & 6.8.16D2 of the Constitution and Bylaws of the California Community College Athletic Association/Commission On Athletics (CCCAA/COA), the ticket prices are set by the CCCAA/COA, and according to section 8 of the bylaw all revenue produced by a Post-conference Competition is remanded to the CCCAA/COA. Ticket prices are as follows:

Women's Basketball: 3rd Round Playoff game at Pasadena Saturday

Women's Basketball wins Foothill Conference title

SBVC Women’s Basketball: SBVC 69 at Mt. San Jacinto 72 

SBVC Women win Foothill Conference for first time in back-to-back years. With Antelope Valley losing to Rio Hondo, 54-60, on Saturday, SBVC wrapped up its first back-to-back Foothill Conference titles ever. SBVC Women’s Basketball has won a Conference title 4 times since its inception in 1975; 1998, 2001, 2008, 2009.

SBVC Women’s Basketball: With the loss to Rio Hondo and tonight’s victory by Antelope Valley over Chaffey, 59-57, this puts SBVC in a tie with Antelope Valley at 11-2 atop the Foothill Conference. SBVC must win on Saturday at Mt. San Jacinto or Antelope Valley must lose to Rio Hondo on Saturday for SBVC to win the Foothill Conference crown. SBVC defeated Mt. San Jacinto on January 24 in San Bernardino, 69-64.SBVC has defeated Antelope Valley twice this season. SBVC won the Foothill Conference title last year.


Women's Basketball: Frazier named SBVC Student Athlete of the Month

Women’s basketball sophomore guard Ashleigh Frazier (Redlands East Valley) was named the San Bernardino Valley College Student Athlete of the Month for the month of January.

Head coach Susan Crebbin gave his reasons why Frazier deserved such an honor.

"Sophomore athlete that has stepped up. Accepted the challenge of guarding the best player/guard on the opposing team. Much of the team’s success has also come with her improved play. Consistent scoring threat and has produced six double figure games. Plays 38+ minutes in big games.”


Women's Basketball: Sweeps Mt. San Jacinto

The SBVC women’s basketball team (7-0, 16-8) held onto sole possession of first place in Foothill Conference with a victory over the Mt. San Jacinto Eagles, 69-64.

In the women’s game the Eagles came in only one game back from the SBVC Wolverines with a 5-1 conference record. The game started off slow for the Wolverines as they trailed by eight points in the opening minutes of the game. The Wolverines shot 32 percent in the first half while the Eagles shot 44 percent. The Wolverines battled back to take the lead and went into the half up 33-25. With 8:30 remaining in the game, the score was tied, 48-48. The Eagles took their first lead since the start of the half 53-50 with 7:20 remaining. The game went back and forth, but with 2:47 left in the game, the Wolverines regained the lead, 60-59. With twelve seconds remaining the Wolverines had an almost costly turnover to give possession to the Eagles with a one point lead. Excellent defense by the Wolverines forced the Eagles to a missed shot. Mt. San Jacinto was forced to foul sophomore guard Eisha Sheppard (Victorville Victor Valley) and put her on the free throw line with six tenths (0.6) of a second left in the game. Before she could shoot her free throws a technical foul was called on the Mt. San Jacinto head coach which gave Sheppard two more free throw attempts. Sheppard showed her composure as she made all four shots to put the game away and finalize the victory for the Wolverines.

Sheppard lead the Wolverines with 24 points, sophomore forward Brittany Thompson (San Bernardino Pacific) had 15 rebounds, sophomore guard Dwayanna Pullum (Riverside J.W. North) added 12 points and seven rebounds, sophomore guard Ashleigh Frazier (Redlands East Valley) scored 11 and sophomore forward Angela Green (Riverside La Sierra) had 8 rebounds. The women’s next game will be at home, on January 31st, against Barstow at 1pm.

Women's Basketball: Triumphs over Antelope Valley

The women’s basketball team (5-0, 14-8) had an impressive victory over Antelope Valley to gain sole possession of first place in Foothill Conference 54-47.

In the women’s game the Wolverines shot 30 percent overall from the field, a final surge at the end of the game gave the Wolverines the win. This was the second of four straight games against state-ranked opponents for the Wolverines. The Wolverines beat No. 12 ranked Chaffey last week and now No. 8 ranked Antelope Valley. The game was a close race throughout, but the Wolverines weren’t about to let their undefeated conference record slip away. The Wolverines held Antelope Valley to 30 percent from the field and only 11 percent from the 3-point line in the second half. 

Leading the Wolverines was sophomore guard Dwayanna Pullum (Riverside J.W. North) with 19 points and nine rebounds. Sophomore forward Brittany Thompson (San Bernardino Pacific) had 11 rebounds and nine points and adding eight rebounds each was sophomore guard Eisha Sheppard (Victorville Victor Valley) and sophomore guard Ashleigh Frazier (Redlands East Valley). The Wolverines will face two more state-ranked teams this week and travel to No. 13 Rio Hondo on Wednesday and then face No. 11 Mt. San Jacinto at home on Saturday.

Women's Basketball: Stuns Chaffey in Win

SBVC took on their cross county rival Chaffey and walked away with victories. The women’s basketball team won, 83-71. 

The women’s basketball team (4-0, 13-8) pulled out a close victory against their Foothill conference rival Chaffey to keep their undefeated conference record alive. The Wolverines lead 38-31 at halftime and held their lead throughout the game.  

Chaffey kept fighting to bring the deficit to within 5 points with 8:31 to play in the game. The Wolverines did not let their opponents get any closer than that, and finished the game with a win over the Chaffey Panthers.  

Sophomore guard Ashleigh Frazier (Redlands East Valley) led the Wolverines with 21 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Sophomore guard Eisha Sheppard (Victorville Victor Valley) added 20 points to the Wolverines win and freshman forward Kimberly Kipp (Riverside Martin Luther King, Jr.) had 14 points and 6 rebounds to lift the Wolverines past Panthers.

Women's Basketball: Double Dip Against Conference Foes

The lights were bright in a home opener for the defending Women's Basketball Foothill Conference Champions. The Women's team demolished a Cerro Coso team that traveled with only 5 players, 94-36.

In the first game, the Women's (2-0 11-8) team had five players score in double figures led by an 18 point performance from starting sophomore guard Dwayanna Pullum (Riverside J.W. North), followed closely by sophomore guard Eisha Sheppard (Victorville Victor Valley) with 16 points, freshman forward Nanita Munns (Riverside La Sierra) with 14 points, freshman forward Lisa Kipp (Riverside Martin Luther King, Jr.) with 10 points, sophomore guard Ashleigh Frazier (Redlands East Valley) with 10 points, and sophomore forward Brittany Thompson (San Bernardino Pacific) with 10 total rebounds and 9 points.


SBVC Women's Basketball split at Orange Coast Tourney

The San Bernardino Valley College Women's Basketball team is looking to get back to their winning ways after a tough split at the Orange Coast College Crossover Tournament in Costa Mesa.

On November 28th, SBVC played Santa Ana, winning 70-66. Freshman forward Kimberly Kipp (Riverside MLK, Jr.) lead the team with 22 points and 8 total rebounds. SBVC pressured the Dons into 22 turnovers and converted them into points. Sophomore guard Eisha Sheppard (Victor Valley) scored 12 points and sophomore guard Dwayanna Pullum (Riverside J.W. North) had 10 points in the close win. The Dons have a record of 2-6.

On November 29th, Orange Coast outlasted SBVC in a game that lasted three overtime periods, SBVC lost 85-79. Sheppard lead the team in points with 25 and contributed 9 total rebounds. Sophomore forward Angela Green (Riverside La Sierra) had her first double-double of the year, leading the team in total rebounds with 13 and contributing 14 points. Kipp had 10 total rebounds and 2 points, Pullum had 17 points and 5 total rebounds, and freshman Nanita Munns (Riverside La Sierra) had 11 points and 7 totals rebounds in the tiring close loss. The Pirates have a record of 6-1.

SBVC is coached by Susan Crebbin in her fourth season with San Bernardino Valley and SBVC will continue non-conference play this Friday, December 5, at 5 p.m. at the Oceanside MiraCosta Spartans.
