Women's & Men's Basketball: SBVC opens
up season by knocking teams out
November 8, 2009
The Men's team traveled to San Francisco
for the City College of San Francisco
Tournament and the Women's team traveled
to Walnut for the Mt. San Antonio
College Tip Off Tournament, each team
reaching the championship finals
respectively.
Women's basketball opened up the
Mt. SAC Tip Off Tournament with
a game against a testy Palomar
team that was out for revenge
after SBVC upset Palomar, in the
opening round of the 08-09 State
Playoffs. SBVC won, 64-52. In
the second round, SBVC faced
regional rival, Riverside, where
SBVC triumphed, 81-70. In the
tournament championship final,
SBVC faced host team, Mt. San
Antonio, and fell by 4 points,
44-48.
Men's
basketball opened up the
City College of San Francisco
Tournament with a game against
the host team, City College of
San Francisco. SBVC faced CCSF
in the opening round of the
State finals 8 months prior,
losing in a triple overtime game
for the ages. With reciprocity
on their minds, SBVC returned
the favor by thumping CCSF,
80-67. In the second game, SBVC
faced an always tough Fresno
team, and won 90-78.
In the
tournament championship final,
SBVC faced the preseason number
one in the Foothill Conference,
Mt. San Jacinto, that ranking
meant nothing, as SBVC crushed
Mt. San Jacinto, 89-69, to win
the City College of San
Francisco Tournament. In the
preseason coaches poll, CCSF was
ranked fifth in the state,
Fresno was ranked first, Mt. San
Jacinto was ranked third, and
SBVC was ranked fourth.

Women’s
basketball
sophomore guard Ashleigh Frazier
(Redlands East Valley) was named
the San Bernardino Valley College
Student Athlete of the Month for the
month of January.
Head coach Susan Crebbin gave his
reasons why Frazier deserved such an honor.
"Sophomore athlete that has stepped up. Accepted the challenge of guarding the

Women's
Basketball: Sweeps Mt. San Jacinto
January 24, 200 9
The SBVC women’s basketball team (7-0,
16-8) held onto sole possession of first
place in Foothill Conference with a
victory over the Mt. San Jacinto Eagles,
69-64.
In the women’s game the Eagles came in
only one game back from the SBVC
Wolverines with a 5-1 conference record.
The game started off slow for the
Wolverines as they trailed by eight
points in the opening minutes of the
game. The Wolverines shot 32 percent in
the first half while the Eagles shot 44
percent. The Wolverines battled back to
take the lead and went into the half up
33-25. With 8:30 remaining in the game,
the score was tied, 48-48. The Eagles
took their first lead since the start of
the half 53-50 with 7:20 remaining. The
game went back and forth, but with 2:47
left in the game, the Wolverines
regained the lead, 60-59. With twelve
seconds remaining the Wolverines had an
almost costly turnover to give
possession to the Eagles with a one
point lead. Excellent defense by the
Wolverines forced the Eagles to a missed
shot. Mt. San Jacinto was forced to foul
sophomore guard Eisha Sheppard
(Victorville Victor Valley) and put her
on the free throw line with six tenths
(0.6) of a second left in the game.
Before she could shoot her free throws a
technical foul was called on the Mt. San
Jacinto head coach which gave Sheppard
two more free throw attempts. Sheppard
showed her composure as she made all
four shots to put the game away and
finalize the victory for the Wolverines.
Sheppard lead the Wolverines with 24

the game gave the Wolverines the win. This was the second of four straight games
against state-ranked opponents for the Wolverines. The Wolverines beat No. 12
ranked Chaffey last week and now No. 8 ranked Antelope Valley. The game was a
close race throughout, but the Wolverines weren’t about to let their undefeated
