Women's Soccer:
All-Conference team selected
November 19, 2009
Under the
tutelage of sixth-year coach Kristin
Hauge, SBVC Women's Soccer ended the regular season
undefeated and the team won a school
record 17 games, on their way to winning
their second straight Foothill
Conference title. Continuing to build on
its reputation as an up-and-coming
program in the region, the 17 wins led
to another first, a ranking of 6th in
the state, and 3rd in Southern
California. SBVC Women’s Soccer will
face Bakersfield, at home, this
Saturday, November 21 at 2 p.m. in the
first round of the state playoffs.
General admission is $8; faculty, staff,
children under 12, adults 60 and older,
and students with valid associated
student cards are $6.
The first
place conference finish led to the
Wolverines third straight playoff
appearance in the team’s history, giving
SBVC its first visit to the playoffs in
back-to-back-to-back years. In addition,
the team was awarded a home playoff game
for the first time in team history.
Women’s Soccer
had 13 players named All-Foothill
Conference, sophomore midfielder Sylvia
Fuentes (Moreno Valley H.S.), freshman
defender Angela Young (San Bernardino
Cajon), freshman midfielder Lauren Evans
(Redlands H.S.), and freshman forward
Araceli Sanchez (Moreno Valley H.S.)

All-Foothill Conference. Fuentes was the
2008 Foothill Conference MVP.
Those named
second team All-Foothill Conference were
sophomore goal keeper Maria Magaña (San
Bernardino Arroyo Valley), freshman
forward Evelyn Calderon (Fontana A.B.
Miller), freshman forward Juana Padilla
(San Bernardino H.S.), and sophomore

Calderon was also the California Student
Athlete of the Month award and was named
the SBVC Student Athlete of the Month in
the same month. In 2008, Magaña was
named honorable mention All-Foothill
Conference. One of the most prolific
scorers in state history, Evelyn

Valley View), sophomore midfielder
Elizabeth Tapia (Nuevo Nuview Bridge),
sophomore defender Yesenia Castillo (San
Bernardino Aquinas), and freshman

Rancho Verde). In 2008, Castillo was
named second team All-Foothill
Conference.
The 2009
soccer season has been a great one for
Valley College women's soccer and one
that will be remembered for years to
come.
Women's Soccer: The Perfect Season,
17-0-4, and Back-to-Back Conference Champs! November 13, 2009
SBVC faced off against
the eleventh ranked team in Southern
California in the San Diego Mesa
Olympians, and while the game was a
stalemate throughout, a penalty kick
decided the game, as SBVC won, 1-0.
The victory over
the Olympians gives SBVC its first undefeated season in Women’s
Soccer in team history. In addition, the sixth ranked SBVC Women’s
Soccer team won its second straight Foothill Conference title
another first for the team, who just last year won its first
Conference title ever.
The deciding
goal came in the second half as Mesa sophomore goal keeper Alysia
Barone (La Jolla) was called for a foul in the penalty box after a
rough recovery. Moments later sophomore midfielder Sylvia Fuentes
(Moreno Valley H.S.) converted the penalty kick and that is all SBVC
would need to secure the victory.
SBVC barraged
the Mesa keeper with 18 shots on goal and SBVC sophomore goal keeper
Maria Magana (San Bernardino Arroyo Valley) had 8 saves. In the 60th
minute, Mesa turned up the heat keeping the ball on their end for
most of the rest of the match, and the defense adopted the “bend,
but do not break” philosophy as they absorbed every onslaught and
turned away every attack.
The south
seeding meeting, to determine playoff seedings for Men’s and Women’s
Soccer, will be held on Tuesday, November 17th at Fullerton College
at 11am.

Women’s soccer
freshman forward Evelyn Calderon
(Fontana Azariel Blanchard Miller H.S.)
was named the San Bernardino Valley
College Student Athlete of the Month for
the month of September.
Head coach Kristin
Hauge gave her reasons why Calderon
deserved such an honor.
“Evelyn has
14 goals and nine assists in ten games,
equaling 37 total points, the SBVC
scoring record is 17 in a season. Evelyn
has had two game winning goals and a
game tying goal in final two minutes of
play versus Santiago Canyon. Santiago
Canyon is ranked number one in
California and number four in the United
States.

currently ranked number one in the state
in scoring with 37 points and currently

Women's Soccer: SBVC takes Conference
lead
October 6, 2009
SBVC knocked off
the Antelope Valley Marauders, 1-0, to
gain sole possession of first place in
the Foothill Conference. The one goal
scored in the 79th minute, on a rebound
off the Marauders goalie and tapped in
by freshman forward Juana Padilla (San
Bernardino H.S.). Each team played
tough, as the stifling defenses would
not let much get by them, some of that
aggressive play was rewarded with yellow
cards. The next game for SBVC Women’s
Soccer will be at Mt. San Jacinto on
Friday, October 9.
Women's Soccer: Winning Games and Taking Names
September 8, 2009
Last season SBVC Women’s Soccer (3-0-1) won
their first Foothill Conference title in team history and is on their way to a
repeat performance after scoring 26 goals in 4 games. Their offense is potent,
their defense is strong, and goalies make the most out of their opportunities.
At home, the women are 3-0, scoring
24 goals, leaving the opponents to score 1 goal. Their only tie,
2-2, was at the hands of one of the best women’s soccer programs in
the state, Santiago Canyon.
Leading the team in goals is freshman
forward Evelyn Calderon (Fontana Miller)
with 8. She has scored at least once in
all four games and had a three goal game
versus Pasadena. If she’s not scoring
goals, she is assisting on them, because
she leads the team with 5 assists as
well.
In
net for a lion’s share of the minutes is
sophomore goal keeper Maria Magaña (San
Bernardino Arroyo Valley). She has seen
over 242 minutes in goal with 11 saves
and only 3 goals allowed. Net minding
duties are shared with sophomore Natalia
Guevara (Rialto H.S.) and freshman
Bianca Contreras (Moreno Valley Canyon
Springs). Guevara has 73 minutes in goal
with 1 save and no goals against and
Contreras has 43 minutes in goal with 2
saves and no goals against.
Other
scorers include freshman forward Juana
Padilla (San Bernardino H.S.) with 4
goals and sophomore forward Sarahi
‘Poly’ Bransford (Riverside Poly) with 3
goals and 1 assist.
