LVN to RN Degree Program

The Nursing Department offers a program to assist Licensed Vocational Nurses become Registered Nurses. Students earn an Associate of Science degree with a major in nursing. The program is fully accredited by the California State Board of Registered Nursing.

Students may choose to take the regular RN program (see RN information section) or the LVN to RN Degree program Students must complete prerequisites, apply, and be accepted into the LVN to RN Degree Program. Students are admitted once a year in the spring semester beginning in February. Submit application (see below) and required documents listed on application form by December 1. All prerequisites must be completed or in-progress when the application is submitted. A schedule of Information Meetings is available at the Health Science Division office, HLS 101, or on-line.
 

Note: A background check and health requirements must be completed before enrollment in the program. California may deny Registered Nurse license to an applicant based on a conviction or legal action substantially related to nursing practice.

 Prerequisites

  • California LVN license
     

  • Proof of High School completion (transcript or diploma, or GED or Calif. H.S. proficiency score)
     

  • One year full-time work experience as an LVN (submit list of employer(s), patient care unit type, starting and ending dates)
     

  • Freshman Composition, ENGL 101 with a grade of C or higher
     

  • Intermediate College Algebra, MATH 095 with a grade of C or higher
    (or higher level math course)
     

  • 4 Science Courses, each with a grade of C or higher and a minimum G.P.A. of 2.75 in the four courses:

    Human Anatomy and Physiology I & II BIOL 250 & 251  8 Units with lab
             or Human Anatomy BIOL 260 and Human Physiology BIOL 261
    Microbiology BIOL 270 4 Units with lab
    General Psychology PSYCH 100 3 Units

Note:
- Physiology (or A & P I & II) and Micro must be taken within 5 years of qualified application
- A&P I & II series (BIOL 250/251) must be taken at the same college.
- BIOL 251 has a prerequisite of BIOL 250
- BIOL 261 has prerequisites of CHEM 101 and BIOL 260
- BIOL 270 has prerequisites of BIOL 250 or BIOL 260 or BIOL 261 and CHEM 101

 Pre or Co requisites:  complete the following courses with a grade of C or higher by the end of the program

Elements of Public Speaking  SPEECH 100 3 Units
      or Interpersonal Communication SPEECH 111 
Introduction to Sociology SOC 100 3 Units
     or Cultural Anthropology ANTHRO 102
